PESTICIDE RESISTANCE MANAGEMENT

Tobex® Multi MoA Concentrate contains a Group 3A and Group 7C insecticide. Insect biotypes with acquired resistance to Group 3A and Group 7C may eventually dominate the insect population if Group 3A and 7C insecticides are used repeatedly or in successive years as the primary method of control for targeted species. This may result in partial or total loss of control of those species by Tobex Multi MoA Concentrate or other Group 3A or 7C insecticides.

To delay insecticide resistance consider:

● Avoiding the consecutive use of Tobex Multi MoA Concentrate or other Group 3A and 7C insecticides that have a similar target site of action, on the same insect species.

● Using tank mixtures or premixes with insecticides from a different target site of action Group as long as the involved products are all registered for the same use and have different sites of action.

● Basing insecticide use on a comprehensive IPM program.

● Monitoring treated insect population for loss of field efficacy.

Contact your local extension specialist, and/or manufacturer for insecticide resistance management and or IPM recommendations for the specific site and resistance pest problems.

SPECIFIC USE DIRECTIONS

Mosquitoes:

Apply as a spray where mosquitoes may rest, harbor, or breed, contacting as many mosquitoes as possible. This includes, but is not limited to, tall grass, foliage, landscape plantings and building foundations. The ideal target area is the bottom 20 feet of trees. Pay particular attention to the underside of plant leaves and resting sites.

Apply using a backpack mist blower or other mechanical or pressurized equipment including, but not limited to, backpack sprayers and power sprayers. Do not make outdoor broadcast applications when wind speed is 15mph or greater.

Recommended to use 1 fl. oz. per gallon or 1 fl. oz. in sufficient water to cover 1,000 sq. ft. for standard light infestation or low pest pressure and 2 fl. oz. per gallon or 2 fl. oz. in sufficient water to cover 1,000 sq. ft. for heavy infestation or high pest pressure.

In New York state, for outdoor broadcast and foliar applications, do not apply more than 1 fl. oz. of Tobex Multi MoA Concentrate per 1,000 sq. ft.

7Listed Flies:

To control house flies and phorid flies, treat protected areas outdoors. Treat garbage cans, cracks and crevices containing organic matter, recycling bins and other sources that hold or contain organic matter.

To control fruit flies, treat surfaces around garbage cans and recycling bins.

Cluster Flies: Apply in late summer or early fall before flies are observed resting on surfaces. Apply thoroughly on siding, under eaves, and around windows and doors, paying particular attention to south-facing surfaces. Apply enough diluted product to adequately cover the area without excessive dripping or runoff. Volume can vary depending on the surface type treated. Heavy precipitation prior to frost may require retreatments to maintain protection. In winter and spring when flies become active and are emerging, interior crack and crevice and void treatments can help reduce the infestation, along with ULV or surface application in infested attics or unoccupied lofts.

Fleas & Ticks:

To control fleas and ticks, apply to kennels, runs and other areas where pets or other animals have been present. Treat the entire area and retreat as necessary to maintain control. Do not apply to pasture or cropland and do not allow animals and people to access treated areas until the application has dried. DO NOT SPRAY PETS OR OTHER ANIMALS WITH THIS PRODUCT. Treat pets with a product registered for use on animals. For best outdoor control of ticks, apply spray to vegetation, brush, branches and other areas near habitation where ticks may harbor or frequent.

Ants:

Make spot, crack and crevice and/or void applications where ants may be foraging and/or nesting, such as around doors or window frames, under sinks, around pipes, attic venting and other areas where ants may find access or nest.

Fire Ant Control:

Treat individual mounds with a drench application using a watering can. Use 1.2 fl. oz. Tobex Multi MoA Concentrate per 2.5 gallons of water. Thoroughly soak each mound and a 3 ft. diameter circle around each mound. Gently apply the mixture to avoid disturbing the mound. Disturbing the mound may cause the ants to migrate and reduce the effectiveness of the treatment. For best results apply in the early morning or late evening hours. Applications can be made on a monthly basis to maintain protection of treated areas.

6Crawling Pests such as Cockroaches, Crickets, Earwigs, Silverfish and Spiders:

Make spot and/or crack and crevice applications into harborage areas, cracks and crevice, entry points, under refrigerators, vending machines, around pipe and along baseboards.

Specific Use Directions

7Listed Flying Insect Pests in and Around Livestock and Poultry Premises:

For residual control of listed flying insects, treat insect resting areas such as walls, ceilings, screens, around windows, doors, gates, cages, light fixtures, under slats, known insect breeding/egg deposit areas and other surfaces that attract flying insects. Initiate treatments at the beginning of fly season and repeat treatments during periods of heavy infestation. Treatments can be made both indoors and outdoors, but animals cannot be present at the time of application.

6Listed Crawling Insect Pests in and Around Livestock and Poultry Premises:

Apply as a general surface, spot treatment, and/or crack and crevice treatment. Apply to floors, vertical and overhead surfaces where crawling insects are or may be present. Treat stanchions, pipes, windows, doors, posts, cage framing, gates, under (but not in) feeders and waterers, and other areas where insects hide or congregate. To reduce immigration of insects, make a perimeter treatment around the outside of building foundations. Apply in a uniform band 1 to 3 feet up the exterior foundation wall and 3 to 6 feet out from the foundation. May also be injected into wall voids.

Litter Beetle Control in Poultry Premises:

Tobex Multi MoA Concentrate controls darkling beetles (also known as lesser mealworms) in poultry housing. This product can be used as a crack and crevice, broadcast, or banded/spot treatment to areas where beetle infestations frequently occur, such as walls, floors, stalls, around feeders, and support posts of poultry barns. To reduce immigration of insects, make a perimeter treatment around the outside of building foundations. Apply in a uniform band 1 to 3 feet up the exterior foundation wall and 3 to 6 feet out from the foundation.

Do not apply when birds are present and do not expose poultry to direct spray. Exposed water lines and feed troughs must be covered or raised/removed from the area before treatment begins. Once completed, allow treated surfaces to dry completely before restocking. Do not apply as a fog or space-spray.

Apply after de-caking, clean out and sanitation procedures are complete but prior to new flock placement. It may be advisable to treat houses before removing litter to prevent possible infestation of nearby residences.

Application Methods for Darkling Beetle Control

Band Application:

Darkling beetles often crowd under feeders, water lines or along perimeter walls, lying buried in the litter. Under these circumstances, it may be sufficient to treat the primary areas of beetle infestation within a poultry house. Beetles can also infest structures behind insulation in walls; Tobex Multi MoA Concentrate can be applied as a spot treatment inside wall voids or as a crack and crevice application to target these infestations.

For band application, apply diluted product to a 3-5 foot wide swath of floor area, making sure to get under all the water and/or feed lines in the house. Continue applying a 3-5 foot swath along the inside perimeter of all the side and end walls including the entire surface of all footings and 1 to 3 feet up onto the walls support beams and wood surfaces above the foundation.

Interior Whole House Application:

Whenever an infestation is severe, it may be necessary to treat the entire house by applying the diluted product as a broadcast spray. Apply Tobex Multi MoA Concentrate on the entire floor, paying particular attention to areas beneath feed and water lines, as well as to the lower sections of walls up to 1 to 3 feet on wood surfaces above the foundation. It may be necessary to apply fresh bedding prior to restocking.

For Best Results:

In houses with support beams, treat around the base of each support post and 1 to 3 feet up each post. Apply diluted spray to cracks and crevices around insulation where beetles have been seen or can find harborage. To prevent movement of beetle infestations to houses and nearby residences, it may also be desirable to treat manure before it is relocated from the poultry house.

Use Tobex Multi MoA Concentrate as part of an integrated pest management program to extend the efficacy of insect control products and to help minimize the build-up and carryover of resistant insect populations. Darkling beetles have the ability to develop resistance to insecticides. When one class of chemistry is used flock after flock, the likelihood that insects will develop resistance and become more difficult to control, greatly increases. This product contains pyrethroids, which should be used in a rotational program with other classes of insecticides including neonicotinoids (Darlex® Insecticide), Insect Growth Regulators, organophosphates or spinosyns to minimize or prevent the development of resistance and to maintain its effectiveness in controlling darkling beetles and other listed insects.
