Cefmetazole Pregnancy Warnings

Cefmetazole has been assigned to pregnancy category B. Animal studies have failed to reveal evidence of embryolethality or teratogenicity. There are no controlled data in human pregnancies. Cefmetazole should only be given during pregnancy when need has been clearly established.

Cefmetazole Breastfeeding Warnings

Cefmetazole is excreted into human milk in trace amounts. Adverse effects in the nursing infant are unlikely.

There are no reports of adverse side effects in nursing infants whose mothers are receiving cefmetazole. Some experts warn of the possibility of unknown direct side effects in the nursing infant, modification of neonatal bowel flora, and difficulty in the interpretation of culture results in the evaluation of a suspected infection.
