Nasal Polyps

AMBULATORY CARE:
Nasal polyps
are noncancerous growths caused by long term swelling inside of your nose. The swelling may be the result of allergies, or repeated nasal or sinus infections. Polyps can grow large enough to block air going in and out of your nose.
Common symptoms include the following:
- Nasal congestion
- Difficulty breathing through your nose
- Decreased or loss sense of smell
Contact your healthcare provider for the following:
- Your symptoms do not get better with treatment.
- Your symptoms return after treatment.
- Your nose bleeds or is irritated.
- You have questions or concerns about your condition or care.
Treatment for nasal polyps
will include treating the condition causing the polyps. You may be prescribed medicines for allergies or infection. Medicines, to decrease the size of the polyps and to treat congestion, may also be prescribed. Surgery may need to be done if other treatments do not work.

by avoiding allergens and following the directions on the labels of nose drops and sprays.
