I suffer from muscle spasms due to, sciatica and fibromyalgia. I'm on Flexeril, Toradol, Lyrica, and Ultram. I get this tightens in my legs calfs to where it leaves me in excriuating pain. I have looked every where to find "something" that I can do to calm the nerves. It doesn't make sense because I am on medication to treat this health conditions.
I know that the medications can't take the pain completely away, but help you cope with the pain. But this heaviness has really got me thinking. I told my familly doctor about the spasms so he put me on the Flereril and the Toradol. Is there anybody else that endures this? I'd hate to stand alone,
I was put on Gabapentin 300 mg for my fibromyalgia and my husbands doctor put him on the same thing and the same dose for severe leg cramps at night. He has not had any cramps being on Gabapentin only if he missed a dose , though he only did once and paid for it. Crazy how it can be used for so many things. But it has stopped his leg cramps which were very very bad. Hope you get help.

Oh my gosh I am so relieved and sad at the same time I thought I was the only one with these symptoms. I am suffering from severe leg spasms and heaviness in my legs when I walk. I also have these weird shooting pains up and down my legs. I also have degenerative disk disease in my lower back and it constantly hurts as well.
I have told and seen numerous doctors and finally one listened. I am taking flexeril 20 mgs three time a day. While it keeps the spasm at bay it does nothing for the rest of the issues.
Please let me know how long you have had these problems and anything that might be helpful. Thanks so much for posting this information!

I was on toradol years ago, & my doctor took me off of it. There was a special warning that came out, not sure what it was, but I am going to refer you to the site explaining all about it. I had to have blood tests & have only received shots of it in the hospital since. Just be very careful taking this drug. I to believe the statins could be causing your problems. My husband takes the highest dose of zocor, 80mg. The FDA last week gave a warning about taking statins due to the problems they cause people with muscle & tendon damage that can show up at any time. A better diet should help with the cholesterol. Please reconsider taking these drugs, If you are having cramps in your legs , Vitamin C at least 1000mb can help reduce this, I get this too when I sleep, & if I have forgotten to take my vit. C & magnesium I wake up with horrible cramps or spasms in my calfs. Give it a try too.
That was mg. of Vit C, not mb, sorry for the typo... mary

Listen the vitamins will not even begin to help with severe muscle spasms. I know that you were just trying to help but I also have the same problems and I also thought that vitamins were the answer. Much to my dismay it is a medical problem and if you have ever had a spasm it's the worst pain I have ever endured. Now I am left with either waking up in the middle of the night with a blood curtailing scream or flexeril. :)

Blondie-- are you taking any meds to reduce cholestral-Zocor, Lipitor, simivastatin-- anything with statins in it? Statins can cause cramps in feet legs, arms. I'm on antiseizure meds-and when I took a statin med i had cramps so bad they were labeled as seizures. Check out what you're taking for meds. If you R taking a cholestral reduction med- check out SpaceDoc.com He was a flight surgeon and really got messed up by statins. Just in the last few months the Internet availiability of information about the permenent damage that statin is tremendous. This site isn't that great-but it helps a lot. I'm wearing special shoes, insets, going to physical therapy, ice packs, etc. In July I was walking 1+ to10 miles a day-with the normal walk being 3 miles.

Hi meyati:
I'm on Crestor medication to reduce cholesterol. I've never thought about that. Do you think if it is the medication, go off the Crestor or try something else? I'll check out the website you mentioned.
Thank you for the response. -Blondie

Crestor is made with statin-Sometimes the pain never goes away. SpaceDoc is crippled--Many doctors are antiagonistic, I guess they're worried about a lawsuit-something- Nurses are horrible. Once I had to wait in the exam room for 3 hours at an Urgent care-for back spasms. The doctor came in angry-I guess they hoped that I'd leave or cause a commotion where the police would take me. That doctor ended up writing a report that I'm suffering from statin side effects. It tipped the scales with my regular doctor. If they give you trouble pick out one specific thing-like I did my shoulder-stick to that. Stopping statin on the 3rd day of seizures, caused the severe seizures to stop. I am improving with the pain. The specialist that I see is still dealing with the side effects of statin. He used to run marathons-now he can't jog around the block.
He has hope that because I stopped the cholestral med on the third day of seizures, and I've had some improvement -severe seizures stopped-urine went back to a normal color-nausea dizziness stopped that I might be able to return to walking and hiking. go to www.statineffects.com. This is a cholestral survey by the University of California-San Diego campus While you probably won't be in the study-Don't think that I am, but we got to let medical people know about it. Have your lab results for cholestral/lipd counts 4 this if possible- But you can get a list of possible symptoms of side effects. Like I began coughing-wouldn't have thought of that being associated with statin. Now I didn't have mouth ulcers, put the skin on my face and lips went all wocky-just peeling off in spots-not healing-seeing this about mouth ulcers-I realized that this was probably from statins-and I seem to be healed up from that this week. The specialist commented on my lips-no sores-just horribley chapped-I told him that I'm Irish and have tender skin-which I do. I really encourage you to look into these sites. Apparently statin can cause nerve damage that mimics ALS (lou Gerhig disease), parkinson, etc. Those things are listed on SpaceDoc-not on UCSD- but UCSD does ask if you have tremors, shaking, etc. I actually became somewhat encouraged by seeing how many things have either cleared up, have less often, or it's less severe. My specialist is delighted that I had the sense to stop taking statins on the 3rd day of seizures-although that was the only med he took-he went in to doctors-kept taking it argueing and his son kept telling him it wasn't from running and to trash the statin. Then he stopped having the seizures-We both agreed that they terrified our family members. You can talk to me any time-and I have some URLS for research papers about this problem. I have a friend in the Air Force-he confirmed that the SpaceDoc actually was an AF flight surgeon and at NASA.

You might need to argue with your doctor-I certainly did. I wonder how many people are labeled as having dementia/alzhiemers, and it's a statin side effect? I started having a tad bit of problems. It showed up in writing--- after I stopped the statins, I went over some of my Emails- and it was horrible. I have another post about it, and a site member talks about statin problems. NBC announced that statin also causes diabetes-type 2 the first week of January-and you can be thin and not have diabetes in your family-its disgusting.
