Has anyone had hair loss while taking Lisinopril?

I was on Lisinopril for a month and immediately my hair WAY noticeably got thinner and TONS of whispy locks coming off in the shower. Changed to Losartan two weeks ago. Hoping this reverses it- so far my hair is still thin but not losing wads of hair and the front crown of my head (that was almost instantaneously detectable) where the quarter sized bald spot was SEEMS to be growing back… I see pores but no hair in some… hoping this is just aftermath of lisinopril and the course will be corrected… did wanna know- for those of you brave enough to (and allowed to) quit- how did you do that? I missed a six hour time frame of taking my medicine (the Losartan) and my bp started to rise and got crazy anxious- dunno if they’re hand in hand or one or the other but after I popped the pill it went down by a point range of at least 20. Know that’s a lot to unpack. Hope someone can help me out too.

My doctor started me on Lisinopril in mid August of this year. This is my first bp med ever and I was on a pretty low dose. Within about 1 week +/- my hair started shedding like crazy! Luckily I've always had very thick hair, otherwise I'd probably be balding by now, but it's still MUCH thinner than it used to be. I've never lost hair like this. I'm very gentle when brushing my hair and only use a super wide tooth comb, yet I still have to stand over a trashcan when doing it. :( Since the shedding began so fast after starting Lisinopril, I connected the dots pretty quickly. While my doctor seemed dismissive about the idea of Lisinopril being the culprit, he still switched me off Lisinopril and on to Norvasc. So we'll see what happens. Does anyone know how long it normally takes for the shedding to stop after discontinuing Lisinopril? Has anyone taken Norvasc? If so, what'd you think?

I had been on Lisinopril for many years. My hair had been falling out at an alarming rate the whole time. A few months ago, I was switched to Lorasatan and hydrochlorothiazide. It does seem as though the hair loss has slowed down, noticeably. (not sure about that spelling).

I have only taken Lisinopril for three days and this morning when I was fixing my hair I noticed a couple strands in my hand. I'm a 38yo male with short and already thin hair. Could Lisinopril do this that fast!? I have higher blood pressure and tons of stress and anxiety. I chalked it up to stress, then came across something that stated it could be blood pressure meds. Any experience with that fast of a reaction? I've never noticed it prior to taking this so logically I think it must be this drug and stress, but I am just amazed how fast that happened if it is the drug.

YES! Starting Lisinopril definitely made my hair fall out. Stopping Lisinopril definitely stopped my hair falling out so rapidly. Its taken a while but its even starting to grow back in a little. Takes weeks to stop falling out and months to start growing back in.

I have been on Lisinopril for 3 weeks now. I've noticed that every time I take my shower, I loose a junk of hair... I informed my doctor today, and she ordered for me a labwork, which I did today.
I'm really grateful, to came across this site. Now I'm sure that my hair loss is caused by Lisinopril.
Dont have to Wait for the lab results. I will never take it again.

Yes, I also suffered from her loss while on this medication my original dosage was 1 Pill per day. I notice my hair was thinning out, About six months ago my blood pressure was higher than usual, therefore my doctor said taken 1 pill in the morning and 1 at night now I’m actually seeing bald spots in the front part of my hair just as you guys .I’m sicken this is horrible. This is not a coincidence that we are losing hair in the same area, I will not take another lisinopril. Thanks for the information, I pray my hair loss issue has come to an end.

I’ve lost 1/2 the hair on my head. I consulted my hairdresser, who said, it wasn’t breaking off. I’m going off the meds. Will do my own research to find a BP med which doesn’t cause hair loss. I’m grateful I found this out, about the medication. I’ve gone through endocrinologist’s, cardiologists and interns. Everything came back normal. Very frustrating. I will post whatever info I find. Maybe this fact, that the company hasn’t been forthcoming with, should be made public. No one else, should have to go through this devastating experience. Wearing a wig, is not a solution.

I too have experienced hair loss. I take amlodipine and lisinopril. It just started occurring and seems to growing back slowly and thinner.

I've been taking Lisinopril for several years and this summer started noticing that my hair is getting drastically thinner. My hair was always thick, but now it is very thin around the front. I blamed the hair loss on too much blow drying and a new hair product I've been using this summer, but now I am afraid it could be the Lisinopril.
My dermatologist told me to take AG Pro vitamins and Biotin daily, to eat more protein, and to stop blowing my hair dry. I only saw her last week, so I don't know if these steps will be effective.
The dermatologist told me that I could ask my internist about switching to Minoxidil for high blood pressure. She said Minoxidil is the drug sold under the brand name of Rogaine. She warned me, though, that if I switch to Minoxidil I won't be able to stop taking it without having hair loss.

I think I will give the vitamins a few months to see if they work and if not I'll see about getting on Minoxidil.

I experienced same go to your doctor and insist on a change it wont get any better trust me I had same they put me on bisoporol it stopped but never improved then onto amlodipine big difference the condition came back no dryness my workmate first said your hair looks dry

I am a black female that was blessed with luscious long wavy thick hair that always grew to my waist. Since taking lisinopril hctz 12.5 my hair has been thin, dry and grows VERY slowly. My unproven theory is that is causes miniaturization of hair follicles. About a month ago I began using Olaplex hair products. Also daily scalp massages by alternating the stuff inside fresh aloe vera plants, pure vitamin E oil, virgin olive oil, organic coconut oil. I can already see a difference from new growth (almost an inch) and my hair appears more full + less dry. I'm thinking about adding a YouTube rice water technique to my regimen. Hopefully some of these ideas will help someone with the lisinopril hair loss issues.

Yes and I’m awfully upset, I’ve taken Lisinopril and it’s has caused my to have a few amount of issues since taking them besides hair loss

This drug Lisinopril took my hair out less than 6 months it took me 10 years to grow my hair it was almost next to my tail bone I cried like a baby in it now trying to grow back it has been over a year am afraid my hair will not be the same it is still very short and the ends are so terrible someone has to do something about this medication I wish there was an Law suit available to sue the company for people going threw this you have to worry about High blood pressure than your hair lost this is crazy I went threw very bad Depression after my hair lost

Thanks to all for your postings about your experience with taking Lisinopril. I've experienced the same thing, with breakage, and losing handfuls of hair on a daily basis. I was writing it off to my thyroid being out of range on the low side. Another annoying feature of Lisinopril is the cough, which never comes at a good time. I will be asking my doctor to change my med, but let's face it, all drugs come with side-effects. Thing is, which is defeating, is that my primary doesn't feel it's anything to have these side effects. I think he's tired of my complaints, and just feels that coughing, and going bald, is no big deal..
